Field workers robbed at gunpoint in Earlimart area

Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies respond to armed robbery east of Earlimart; discover large quantity of drug paraphernalia near Tulare during traffic stop

TULARE COUNTY – In a harrowing incident just east of Earlimart, some field workers found themselves facing an armed robbery, prompting a swift response from county law enforcement.

According to reports from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), the workers were robbed at gunpoint on Dec. 22. When the Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene, they learned there were at least three individuals who drove up to an almond orchard in the area.

Once there, two of the suspects got out of the car and robbed the field workers at gunpoint. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Dec. 21

A recent traffic stop near Tulare led to TCSO deputies discovering a large amount of drug paraphernalia on Dec. 20. The scene unfolded just before 11 p.m. in the area of Road 152 and Avenue 232.

After a search of the vehicle, deputies found a large amount of suspected methamphetamine. The driver of the car, Yerlly Maldonado, 41, was arrested for the crime of transportation for sale of methamphetamine, and was booked at the South County Detention Facility.
