14-year-old Fernando Galindo succumbs to injuries after spending four days in critical condition, two men arrested in connection to the shooting

PIXLEY – Fernando Galindo, a 14-year-old boy who sustained severe injuries from a midnight shooting on June 4, has tragically succumbed to his injuries after spending days in critical condition.

According to an update from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), which responded to the initial scene, Fernando was pronounced dead on June 8. On a previous version of a GoFundMe page orchestrated by Fernando’s brother Abel, it said the teenager spent four days in the hospital in critical condition before he was declared brain dead.

“We have had great memories of him, he was never someone to be sad, he always was someone that would make the room laugh and have a good time,” Abel wrote about Fernando on the GoFundMe page.

Fernando’s injuries were obtained on June 4. According to reports, deputies with the sheriff’s office were called to Pixley for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two 14-year-old boys in a vehicle with gunshot wounds, who were both taken to a local hospital. The other boy had non life-threatening injuries; according to the GoFundMe page, Fernando was shot in the head.

The suspect in the shooting was identified by the sheriff’s office as Jeremiah Graham, 23, of Tulare. He was arrested in Visalia after a brief chase, and was booked on two counts of attempted murder.

On June 11, around 12 p.m., TSCO also identified and arrested a second suspect, LaVaughn Johnson, 21, of Visalia on June 4. He is facing charges of homicide and attempted homicide.

On the previous version of the GoFundMe page, Abel described Fernando as a hardworking young man who worked at the swap meet every Sunday, committed to his “little barber business.” He said he was making money and learning how to save it responsibly.

“While my family and I are going through this and trying to remain strong we know people are looking for more ways to help. We appreciate all the love and support we have been receiving from those closest to us,” Abel said on the GoFundMe page.

The GoFundMe page is titled “Fernando Galindo Medical Expenses” for anyone interested in donating to help support Fernando’s family through this loss.
