A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17 for Ethel Lander, 88, of Lindsay at United Methodist Church of Lindsay. She died on Jan. 5.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1915 in Coweta, Okla. and moved to Fillmore, Calif. when she was 2. Following high school she married her high school sweetheart, Gordon Lander. They moved to Lindsay in 1947 with their three daughters.

After moving to Lindsay she participated in Operation Sky Watch during the late 1940s and early 1950s. She worked at Lindsay Ripe Olive Company and then Sierra Citrus. When she retired from there she became active in AARP.

Her hobbies were sewing for her three daughters and later doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church of Lindsay.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Gordon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ken Grassmyer of Arnold, Carol and Ron Terry of Hollister and Mary and Conley Meling of Lindsay; seven grandchildren, Matt, Mark and Rob Grassmyer, Jeffrey and Brian Terry, Krysten Meling Sanders and Alan Meling; 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church of Lindsay, Children's Hospital Central California, 9300 Valley Children's Place, Madera, CA 93638, in memory of Ethel Lander, attention "Foundation," or the charity of your choice.
