A family memorial service will be held at a later date for Elmer L. "Doc" Mead, 89, of Lindsay. He died on Jan. 13.
He was born in Grand Junction, Colo. on April 4, 1914. After attending Mesa College and the University of Colorado he attended the University of Southern California Dental School and received his bachelor's degree in dentistry. He established his dental practice in Lindsay in 1941 in the former office of Dr. Annie Bond, Lindsay's first woman physician. He left in August 1942 to join the Army Air Corps during World War II where he served in the Pacific including Okinawa. He returned to Lindsay in 1946 where he practiced until his retirement in 1984. He then continued his enjoyment of orange and olive ranching until his death.
He is survived by his daughter, Marsha of Lafayette; son, Mike of Santa Paula; son-in-law, Mike; daughter-in-law, Jeri; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Jane Eyerly Mead.
