Graveside services were held on Jan. 23 at the Three Rivers Cemetery for Marie Mai, 82, of Three Rivers. She died on Jan. 20.
She was born on Aug. 24, 1921 in Wideman, Ark. She grew up in Cheveland, Okla. with her brother, John Sommers, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Russell Kansas High School in 1939 as was married to Vernon Galyardt in Sept. 1940. Vernon was shot down over Kiyushu, Japan in May 1945. Their daughter, Terri was born Jan. 1, 1945. She married Lawrence Mai on Aug. 26, 1946. They lived in Plainville, Kansas until 1982 when they moved to Three Rivers to be close to Terri her husband, Ted and their daughters, Marisa and Kara.
She loved her family, entertaining her friends, gardening, playing bridge, golfing and traveling. She was a devout Christian who loved and served her Lord. She was a devoted teacher of children in Sunday school. She was loved by everyone who knew her for her beauty, her love for her family and friends and her general love of life.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; daughter, Terri and husband, Ted; two granddaughters, Kara Lynn and Marisa and husband, Michael.
