Graveside services for James Albert Rommel, 78, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Exeter District Cemetery with military honors. He passed away Jan. 31 in Palo Alto, Calif.

Born in San Francisco to Albert and Alice Rommel on January 28, 1926, Mr. Rommel was raised in Southern California and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, having seen extensive combat in the South Pacific, and later, atomic testing at Bikini Islands.

He married Marjorie Sisson in Sonora, Calif., in 1969. They lived in Exeter for 20 years while he worked as a diesel mechanic for Visalia Unified School District.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie of Exeter; two sons, Jerry Rommel of Bakersfield and Jim Rommel of Salinas; two daughters, Judi Halvey of San Francisco and Janis Dull of Colorado; two step children, Stephen Miller of Exeter and Connie Miller of Exeter; nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SPCA Shelter, 8084 Lacey Blvd., Hanford, CA 93230.

Arrangements were under the direction of Smith Family Chapel, Exeter.
