No services will be held for Imogene Shoemake, 78, of Exeter per her request. She passed away on Feb. 24.
She was born in Alabama on Sept. 20, 1925. At the age of 12 she moved with her family to Indio, Calif. and later moved to Corcoran where she met Nelson Shoemake in 1940. The couple married in December 1941 and settled in the farming community of Corcoran. From 1956 to 1964 she and Nelson owned and operated the Shoemake Save Mart Grocery Store on Lovers Lane in Visalia and settled in Exeter for their retirement. She was a loving mother, precious grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her two children, daughter, Barbara Rice of Inverness, Fla.; son, Edward Shoemake of Plains, Mont.; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Shoemake in 1995.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 211 N. Encina, Visalia, CA 93291. Arrangements are under the direction of Evans-Miller Exeter Chapel.
