A celebration of life service was held at the First Baptist Church in Lindsay for Larry Neil Smith, 61, of Visalia. He went home to be with His Lord on Feb. 28.
He was born in Strathmore on July 5, 1942 to Cleo and Mary Lou Smith.
He was raised on his family's farm in Strathmore and graduated from Strathmore High School and Fresno State University. He taught and coached at Strathmore High School, and farmed prior to his retirement.
He taught religious education classes at the First Baptist Church of Lindsay for many years. He was an excellent woodworker and enjoyed refinishing furniture in his spare time. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Visalia.
He married Judy Shuman in April 2003 and though their time together was short, they enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening and just being together. He was devoted to his family and especially his grandchildren. He loved the New York Yankees, the Oakland Raiders and any team that his sons coached or his grandchildren were part of. He never missed a baseball practice or game of his oldest grandchild Luke.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Shuman-Smith; his son, Eric and his wife, Juanita; his son, David and his wife, Heather; his sisters, Lyla Williams and Lou Ellen Avila; grandchildren, Luke, Andrew, Makayden, Cameron, Jenna, Michael and Alex; Judy's family; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
