A memorial service for Robert "Bob" Lanning was held on April 27 at St. James Episcopal Church in Lindsay. Father Philip Livingston officiated. He died on April 22 at Camp Nelson.

He was born on Nov. 28, 1915 in Selby, S.D. He married Anna D. Benge on May 5, 1993 in Lindsay.

He was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. He received his degree in civil engineering in 1937. He was employed as manager of Lindmore Irrigation District for 32 years.

He was the former Mayor of Lindsay in 1967. He was a former member of the Lindsay Kiwanis Club, the Porterville-Lindsay Masonic Lodge No. 303. He served on the Friant Water Users Authority (FWUA) Committee, worked as an engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation in charge of the alignment of the Friant-Kern Canal and was instrumental in the construction of FWUA's member irrigation districts.

He was an avid golfer and loved the mountains, fishing and hunting. He was well loved by his peers. He enjoyed to travel and loved anything in motion.

He is survived by his wife, Anna D. Lanning of Lindsay; a son, Lawrence "Larry" Lanning of Tulare; a brother, Cortland Lanning of Sacramento; three grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 1945 W. Shaw Ave., Fresno, CA 93721. Arrangements were under the direction of Webb-Sanders Funeral Home.
