Masonic graveside services for Howard A. Fackler, Sr., 77, of Exeter, were held May 3 at Exeter District Cemetery. He died at home on April 26.
He was born to Howard and Dorothea Fackler on Dec. 20, 1926 in Port Angeles, Wash. Howard was raised and educated in Washington. He served in the US Navy during World War II. After the service he came to Brawley, Calif., and moved to Exeter 40 years ago. He married Elizabeth Brunswick at the Exeter Memorial Building on March 9, 1997.
He had worked as a federal and state fruit inspector before a career at Food Machinery Corp. was cut short by early health-related retirement. Howard was a member and past master of the Exeter Masonic Lodge #424, member and past president of the Tulare County Shrine Club and member of the Tin Lizzie Club of the Shrine. He was recording secretary of the Exeter Memorial District and active in the Visalia Smooth Dancers and Forever Young Saturday night dance club and former member of both the Lions and Kiwanis clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Liz Fackler of Exeter; sons, Howard Fackler, Jr. of Exeter and Scott A. Schmidt of Toluca Lake; daughters, Yvonne Stephens of Utah, Sara L. Savary of Fresno, and Sandra L. Hay of Merced; grandchildren, Julie R., Douglas P. and Sand L. Stephens, Donna Strebel and Cassandra B. Hay; and one great-grandson.
