A combined Rosary and Mass for Josie Herrera was held on July 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Lindsay followed by a burial at Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery. She died and joined the Lord on July 18 at her home in Visalia after a long illness.

She was born on May 20, 1951 in Riverside, Calif. to Rita Chagolla Herrera and the late Jose Herrera. The family settled in Lindsay, where she completed her primary and secondary education. After graduating from Lindsay High School, she attended College of the Sequoias majoring in administration of justice. A vital part of her life-work included nurturing her two children as well as her niece and nephew, Eztli Herrara-Gardea and Emilio Herrera-Gardea. She had a talent for cooking, storytelling and making people feel special. She was a people person always willing to serve others, especially her family and friends. She always took pride in knowing her neighborhood and making her neighbors aware of the resources available to them. She was a past volunteer for Neighborhood Watch and Visalia Women's Shelter and served as a member of Seven Trees Village Association and Sociedad Edad De Oro.

She is preceded in death by siblings, Jesus Herrera of San Jose, John, Joe, Frank and Peter Herrera of Riverside, and Dolores Diaz, Lupe and Ralph Herrera of Lindsay.

She is survived by her mother, Rita; sisters, Mary Helen and Mercy Herrera all of Lindsay; brothers, Lalo, Luciano, Michael, Richard, and Robert Herrera all of Lindsay; and children Tricia Herrera and Daniel Jeremy Flores both of Visalia.

Donations may be made on her behalf to the American Cancer Society at 120 E. Murray, Visalia, CA 93291. Arrangements were under the direction of Webb-Sanders Funeral Home of Lindsay.
