Visitation, chapel and graveside services for Wilburn "Stubby" Hemphill, 67, of Las Vegas were held on July 23 at Webb-Sanders Funeral Home of Lindsay and officiated by Pastor Samuel Estes. He died on July 16 at Desert Inn Hospital in Las Vegas. Burial was in the Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery.
He was born on July 17, 1936 in Tyrone, Okla. He was raised in Lindsay, where he attended Lindsay High School. He worked in the oilfields in Ventura, Calif.
After that he became a diesel mechanic for Peterbilt trucks and Mack Trucks, where he worked for 22 years. He loved the outdoors, camping, 4-wheeling, fishing and working with black powder guns. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Moose Lodge in Oxnard, Calif. since 1982.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Jack Hemphill, 1994 and Bob Hemphill, 1999; sisters, Florence McDaniel, 2001 and Betty Butler, 1994.
He is survived by one son, James Hemphill of Bakersfield; two daughters, Donna Lynn Campo of Eureka, Calif. and Diana Lynn Bickman of Lemon Cove; and two sisters.
Arrangements were under the direction of Webb-Sanders Funeral Home of Lindsay.
