Services for Gladys Marie Kumpe, 79, were held Oct. 8 at First Assembly of God Church of Visalia and burial at Visalia Cemetery. She died on Oct. 5 at Kaweah Delta Hospital of Visalia.

She was born in Cresent, Okla. to Charles and Lizza James on Jan. 15, 1925. She grew up in Boger, Texas. and graduated from high school there. At the age of 19 she moved to California where she married the man of her life, Pastor Ernest Kumpe on March 17, 1946. She graduated from Pasadena City College and had started three pre-schools, the last one in Visalia. She, along with her husband, spent their married life serving others in ministry. She was an active and vital part of a team effort. They had been actively serving at Visalia First Assembly of God since 1974.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest Kumpe of Visalia; two sons, Randall and wife Debbie Kumpe of Coeur D' Alene, Idaho and Ernie Ray and wife Peggy Kumpe of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Charles James of Paradise, Calif.; five sisters, Susie Cline of Oklahoma, Mildred Mara of Bakersfield, Elsie Roper of Visalia, Jean Matheney of Oklahoma, and Betty Gage of Palm Desert; four grandsons, Jeffrey, Drew, Lucas and Jacob.
