Graveside Funeral Services for Eugene Morphis, 79, of Exeter were held on Oct. 14 at the Visalia District Cemetery. He died on Oct. 9 in Visalia.

He was born in Pottsville, Ark. on April 21, 1925 to Odom and Lola Morphis. He entered the US Army in 1943, during World War II. After his discharge in 1946, he lived in Pottsville then moved to the San Francisco area. He married Mary Charlotte Shafer in Reno, Nev. on Oct. 4, 1946. They moved to Exeter in 1964. He was the owner/operator of 3M Appliance with his brother, Charles and son, Lesly. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring old cars and tinkering around.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1999; a stepson, Tommy; and his parents. He is survived by children, Lesly Morphis of Clovis, Mary Lou Morphis of Exeter, Renee Newman and husband Carl of Woodlake; brothers, Charles Morphis of Visalia, Kenneth Morphis of Visalia; sisters, (twin sister) Thelma Matthew of Palm Desert, Calif., and Christine Olson of Palm Desert; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were under the direction of Miller Memorial Chapel of Visalia.
