Robert Hirst, 79, of Exeter, died peacefully at his home in Exeter on Dec. 16. No services will be held per Robert's request.

He was born on May 17, 1925 in Nova Scotia, Canada, to Arthur and Janet (Rankine) Hirst. He was 2 years old when his parents moved to the LA Area. After Robert graduated from school he entered the Navy and served his country during World War II.

After Robert was discharged from the Navy, he married Betty on June 20, 1946. They had two children, Tom and Paula. In 1971, the family moved to Exeter and has been there ever since. Robert was in the construction industry for his entire life.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 58 years, Betty of Exeter; one son, Thomas Hirst and his wife, Nancy; one daughter, Paula Anderson and her husband, Allen; one grandson, Art Hirst; one granddaughter, Allison Blackmon; one great-great-granddaughter, Cheyhane; one brother, Charles Hirst; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Donations may be made in his name to Optimal Hospice, 430 W. Caldwell, Ste. C, Visalia, CA 93277. Arrangements were under the direction of Evans-Miller Exeter Chapel.
