Private services for Elizabeth A. Austin, 70, of Exeter were held. She died on Jan. 21, 2005 in Visalia. She was a homemaker.

She was born on Sept. 15, 1934 in Judsonia, Ark. to James and Lillie (Hicks) Grissom. At the age of eight she moved with her family to Exeter where she was raised and educated. In 1976 she married Paul Austin in Arizona where they made their home and later moved back to Exeter. Her hobbies were crocheting and quilting which she loved giving to family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, devoted grandmother, great-grandmother, special sister and friend to all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillie Grissom; one sister, Bernice Beane; and one brother, Bill Grissom.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Austin of Exeter; one daughter, Connie Derry and her husband Stan, of Morgan Hill, Calif.; one son, Dennis Surratt of San Jose; three brothers, Bobby Grissom of Exeter, Floyd Grissom and his wife Dot, of Palo Alto, and Glen Grissom and his wife Alice, of Clinton, Okla.; one sister, Della Hudspeth and her husband Jack, of Bakersfield; three grandchildren, Jessica McCue of Los Angeles, Kurtis Derry of Morgan Hill, Christie Brodeur and her husband Dominic of Vermont; three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Arrangements were under the direction of Evans-Miller Exeter Chapel.
