Margaret Smith Kimberling was born Aug. 4, 1917, in Exeter and passed away Oct. 12, 2005 in Aptos, Calif.

She graduated from Lincoln Grammar School and Exeter Union High School, class of ‘35. She attended UC Berkeley and earned her nursing degree at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in San Francisco. She was married to Merle Kimberling and continued her nursing career in Exeter, while her husband served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, they lived in El Cerito, Lafayette and Walnut Creek, Calif. Following the death of her husband, she continued her nursing career. After retiring, she volunteered for many years at Planned Parenthood in Walnut Creek. She enjoyed opera, symphony, jazz, theater, reading and watching the Cal Bears and the 49ers. Several years ago, she moved to Aptos, Calif. to be near her daughter.

Margaret is survived by her son; Robert Kimberling of San Leandro; her daughter, Maureen Kimberling, husband, Jim Cochran, and son, Matthew Cochran, of Aptos; her brother, Robert Smith; and her sisters, Jeanne Moffett and Catherine Lewis.

A memorial service was held at Santa Cruz Memorial Chapel on Oct. 22. She is remembered for her open mind, her loving heart and her interest in people and the world about her.
