Born in Walworth, Wis. on March 28, 1921 to Rimmert and Sjoukue Tuinstra, Dutch passed away at his home in Exeter on Monday, Nov. 28, 2005 at the age of 84. Dutch moved to California with his family in 1926, growing up on the family dairy farm in Hines. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in both the North Atlantic and South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he lived and worked as a mechanic in Tulare.
In 1960 he moved to Southern Calif. He married Frances “Frankie” Sullivan, March 20, 1976. They moved to Exeter in 1987 and Frankie passed away May 28, 2004. Dutch was past commander of the American Legion Post 94, Exeter where he served proudly. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister.
Survivors include one son, Robert Ernest Tuinstra of Pismo Beach; one daughter, Nancy Bednar of Placentia, Calif.; one sister, Jenny Sammon of San Jacinto, Calif.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services were held Dec. 1 at Smith Family Chapel, Exeter.
Burial took place in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Calif.
