Richard G. Mendivil, Sr. went to be with his lord Jesus Christ at the age of 72 on Aug. 7, 2006 at the VA hospital in Fresno. Richard was a long time resident of Lindsay. He was born Oct. 5, 1933 in San Jose Calif.

He is survived by sons Richard Mendivil Jr. of Porterville, Larry Mendivil of Terra Bella, daughter Terrie Gonzales-Saenz of Visalia. Richard was preceded in death by daughter, Sherry Ann Mendivil. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and companion Diana Dickinson of Lindsay, as well as brothers Bobby Mendivil of Rowland Heights, John Mendivil of Everett, Wa, David Mendivil of Lindsay, sisters Mary Acevido of Alabama, Josie Armas of Oxnard and Beatrice Garcia of Pecos, TX, Vicki Mendivil of Lindsay, Rosa Mendivil of Lindsay, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard served in the US Army from Dec. 5, 1955 to Oct.2, 1957. He completed his basic training at Fort Ord, CA. He was stationed in Alaska and Washington. He worked in agriculture/ pest control for 35 years. He took great pride in his work and was very knowledgeable in this field. He also worked for General Cable in Lindsay for several years.

He was a Dodger fan and enjoyed going to Dodger games with his children and attended many games when Sandy Koufax pitched. When his sons were young, he was involved with them in Boys Scouts as well as high school sporting events. He was very supported in his twin daughter's activities, as well. His children and grandchildren were a big part of his life.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed trout, bass and deep-sea fishing. He took pleasure spending time at the lake driving his boat while his children water-skied.

He had many long-time friends in his life, as well as constantly making new friends. Richard always had a great sense of humor. Even during the roughest times of his illness, he would make people around him laugh including the medical staff that cared for him. Richard enjoyed investing in real estate, traveling, and playing Keno.

Private family services were held at River Island Country Club in Porterville and private interment was at Lindsay Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be sent to Sierra View District Hospital Foundation c/o Cancer Treatment Center, 465 W. Putnam Ave. Porterville, Ca. 93257. Arrangements were made by Myers Funeral Service, Lindsay.
