Services were held Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Lindsay for Verley Alene Dunn, 94 of Strathmore, who entered eternal life, Jan. 27, 2007 at her home with her loving family at her side. She was welcomed by her Lord and Heavenly Family.

Alyene was born April 23, 1912 in Stephenville, Texas to Melvin and Rebesia (Eakins) Gaither. She married Eldon &#8220Jerry” Dunn in Texas, Sept. 24, 1932 and the family moved to Lindsay in 1936.

In 1952, she and her family moved to Strathmore where she lived until her death. Alyene worked at Sunnyside Elementary and after her retirement, she and Jerry opened their home to over 400 foster children, and baby-sat with neighbors and their friends children. Some of the children called them Moma Honey and Daddy Dunn. Mom loved her family deeply, all of her children, her vegetable garden, and cooking and caring for family and friends.

She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church for many years, where she taught Sunday school and took care of the nursery. Alyene was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jerry Dunn, her parents Melvin and Rebesia Gaither, a grandson, Doran Dunn, as well as four brothers and one sister.

Alyene is survived by her son Gene and his wife Lavene Dunn of Woodlake; daughters, Nelda Ellis of Strathmore, Bonnie Dunn of Sparks, Nev., Barbara Leming of Summerville, Ga., and Lisa Dunn of Porterville; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; one brother Arlon Gaither and one sister Lucille Christian both of Texas; brother-in-law Bill and Carol Dunn of Fresno, brother-in-law Tom and Sammie Dunn and sister-in-law Edralee Lowe, all of Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Immanual southern Baptist Church, 1276 E. Tulare Rd., Lindsay, CA 93247

Arrangements were under the direction of Webb Sanders Funeral Home, Lindsay.
