Gwendolyn &#8220Gwen” Roberts-Cone

Memorial Services were held for Gwendolyn Roberts-Cone, 26, of Exeter.

She was born to Steve and Donna Roberts on Jan. 15, 1981 in Visalia. Gwen was raised and loved by her mother Donna and her stepfather, Jody Hanggi of Three Rivers, who supported her in her lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

Gwen enjoyed her school years in the cities of Strathmore, Exeter and Watertown, Tenn., where she gathered and made lifelong friends. After graduating from Exeter Union High School, she resided in Reno, Nev., where she pursed her dream of becoming a massage therapist.

Gwen became a double lung recipient, Dec. 20, 2004 at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto. While she was there, she met and fell in love with a wonderful young man, David Cone, who also has Cystic Fibrosis. After a week of flirting with each other across the hall, they met and began a beautiful love story.

Inspired by Gwen's courage, David also had a lung transplant in July of 2005. Gwen stayed by David's side and became his caregiver throughout his recovery. David proposed to Gwen days after his surgery, and they married December of 2006. It was during this time of great health, Gwen realized her lifelong dream of swimming with the dolphins on a family trip to Hawaii. While David continued to thrive, Gwen began to experience numerous post transplant issues that she fought with courage and a strong will.

In January of 2007, Gwen began the last fight of her life, which ended peacefully for her with her husband David, mother Donna, and angel nurses, LeNette and Linda by her side, Thursday, March 15, 2007 at U.C. Davis Medical Center.
