He passed away on Saturday Feb. 3, 2018, at his home in Springfield, Mo. with his family by his side. He was 94 years old.

George was born in Ontario, Calif. on July 7, 1923. He spent much of his youth in California’s San Joaquin Valley in the Lemon Cove, Calif. and Exeter, Calif. areas where he met many of his lifelong friends. That is also where he met his future wife of 66 years, Shirley Eaves of Woodlake, Calif.

They are survived by son Mike of Springfield, Mo.; daughter, Denise of Dunkirk, NY; three grandsons, Daniel, Jason and Chris; granddaughter Toni, great granddaughter, Noel and two great grandsons, Simon and Jacob.

George joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. He realized his boyhood dream of becoming an aviator and piloted a B-25 bomber flying out of Mediterranean island of Corsica. He completed 62 combat missions by the time the war was over and returned home to Shirley. After the war he went to work for the Southern California Edison Co. and retired in 1984 after 39 years. George and Shirley spent many active retirement years flying either their Cessna, making five trips to Alaska, or their Stinson, as well as traveling the world and enjoying their ranch in the Sierra Nevada foothills above Woodlake. George spent the last five years in Springfield, Mo. with his son Mike and daughter-in-law Pat.
