Obituary: Jerry Gale Luallen

Jerry Gale Luallen

Jerry Gale Luallen, formerly of Lindsay, Calif., left this life on June 23, 2018 after a brief illness. He spent his final days at home in Nipomo, Calif. listening to Merle Haggard, with his family and his dog Lola by his side.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1936 and lived a full and active life for 82 years. We will remember his honesty, kindness and the genuine pleasure that he got from reducing the water bill. Golf, marathon games of pinochle with family and friends, and playing pitch with the Indians at the Visalia Country Club were some of his favorite things to do. He was a storyteller and enjoyed making his listeners laugh.

Jerry lived in Santa Cruz until the age of 8, when he moved to Lindsay. He attended Lindsay schools and graduated in the class of 1954. After finishing his degree at the College of the Sequoias, he joined his father at Luallen Soil Service in Lindsay. Later, the family business expanded to include Cal Citrus Packing.

He had a deep sense of satisfaction from being one of the founders and a director of DPI GLOBAL (Distributor’s Processing, Inc.) since its inception in 1965. He was also a part of the original investment group that brought Major Video/Blockbuster Video to the Central Valley. Another source of great personal pride was his six years of service transcribing Morse code in the Navy Reserves.

He was predeceased by his parents, Herschel and Neoline Luallen.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Katherine (Kat) Dillon; sisters, Gayle Wickman, and Anele Heiges; his brother Lynn Heiges (Maureen); his children Chris Luallen, Connie Luallen, Carrie Luallen Shropshire (Bradley), David Thomas (Yuri) and Jason Dupler (Shannon); and grandchildren Raph Carroll (Jess), Sydney Thomas, Kenzi Dupler, Lesley Robledo, and Yareli Robledo.

In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. A celebration of his life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, please remember Jerry by making a donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in his memory or by doing a good deed in his name.
