Hoyt Edwin Shepard of Visalia, Calif. passed away on Sept. 8, 2018 after dealing with some recent injuries and complications with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). He was 82 years old. “Sonny,” as his friends new hime, will be lovingly missed by all of his family and friends.
Hoyt was born in Paul’s Valley, Okla. On May 16, 1936. His family which included a total of 10 children moved to Visalia, Ca. when he was very young. He graduated from high school in Visalia and also attended the College of the Sequoias. Hoyt and wife Sybil, who he was married to for 14 years, lived in the Bay Area for a period of time, but spent the majority of his life living in the Central Valley of California, primarily in Visalia. Sonny was also a member of the California Army National Guard. With a passion for country music, Hoyt was an accomplished guitar player and singer and was known for always being the life of the party with his quick wit and humor that always made everyone around him laugh and smile. He was also a very successful long-haul truck driver for many years and absolutely loved traveling the open road throughout the United States.
He is survived by two sisters, Fran who lives in Arkansas, and Carlyon from Visalia; a brother Jerry who resides in Montana; a daughter Dawn lives in Pollock Pines, Calif. and son Tim resides in Murrieta, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Brittany, and Brooke; two great grandchildren, Bethy and Abbey; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
