Betty Ann Belcher, 1932–2020

Betty Ann Belcher

Surrounded by her beloved children and husband, Betty Ann Belcher of Visalia, Calif. went peacefully into the arms of her Savior in heaven on Feb. 26, 2020. She was 87 years old.

Our beautiful Betty was a warm embrace to all that knew her. Her unconditional love will be forever remembered and treasured in our precious memories of big floppy hats, summers in Santa Barbara, sleepovers and exploring the attic, long chats about the all the moments that mattered the most, telling stories and secrets on the porch swing, the best fried green tomatoes and okra one’s ever had, milkshakes at Gottschalks with shopping and more shopping and being tightly tucked in under soft blankets with a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck and so many countless games of dominos – where she always kept score, “never cheated”, but won more often than not.

She was born on April 12, 1932 in Seminole, Okla. She met her love, James Thomas Belcher (Jim) and they were married on Aug. 8, 1954 in Corinth, Miss. They spent their life together having many adventures and building a large family that was so cherished and loved. They were very happy to have celebrated more than 65 years of marriage. Betty was a devoted Christian and woman of strong faith. She was very proud to have worked, for many years, as an instructional aide with Visalia Unified School District.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Glenn and Nina LeMasters, and her granddaughter, Katy Ann McElhinny. She is survived by her husband, James Thomas Belcher; her three loved children, Glenna Lee Bardone (Fred), James Thomas Belcher Jr. (Monica) and Amy Lou McElhinny; her nine cherished grandchildren, Sarah Tyler (Jim), Simon Bardone (Shirley), Andrew Bardone, Matthew Bardone (Holly), Nicole and Joshua Belcher, Summer Bourez (Darian), Dustin McElhinny and Mary Belle McElhinny; her 10 very special greatgrandchildren; her brother and friend, Glenn LeMasters (Carmen) along with her much loved niece and nephew and many treasured great nieces and great nephews.

A devoted, fun-loving, forever young and beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and so much more to so many, who always lent her listening ear and loved with her whole heart. She instilled in us the value of being in the moment, always eating dessert first, exploring new places and being brave enough to get lost while doing so and that forgiveness and family is always a gift to be treasured.

The family invites those that knew her to join them in celebrating her life and sharing memories. Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Miller Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave. in Visalia. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 followed by chapel service at Visalia Cemetery Chapel, 1300 W. Goshen Ave. in Visalia.
