Letter to the Editor: Happy New Year Again

Dear Editor,

Happy New Year again! For the past 28 years Love INC of Tulare County has been serving our neighbors in need to assist them up and out of their situations. While it is a blessing to remember our neighbors in a special way at Christmas and Easter, it is important that organizations such as Love In the Name of Christ are here all year long to walk along side of those that are hurting and get them connected to the correct resources to help them up and out of their situation.

I am including here a list of ongoing needs: mattresses (we accept used mattresses that are in good condition), sheets, blankets, refrigerators, and furniture. We are members of the Homeless Alliance, helping people up and off of homelessness. We also partner with Next Steps to Freedom, which helps men and women coming out of jail or prison to stay out. We offer assistance in job training, preparing a resumé, interview clothing and/ or work clothing, school clothing. We ask people to collect the personal care items from hotels and we include those with a pair of socks. If you have a large donation please call 559-733-8870 to schedule a pick up. Otherwise we accept donation at our Threads of Love Thrift Stores located at 2121 E Tulare Ave, Tulare and 316 E Kern St., Tulare.

They are open 9-5 Monday through Saturday. Stop in and check out our boutique in Visalia at 4231 W Noble, next to Quantum Leap and Chuck E Cheese. The income produced from our stores goes back into our community and, in addition, we use them to give people work experience to gain employment.

There are many ways in which you too can be involved. You can help pick up donations or deliver to those in need; be a mentor to someone learning how to budget; or volunteer in the office. We cover all of Tulare County. The most important way you can be involved is prayer! Prayer is our most powerful tool. We want to see people succeed and the best way to do that is to get them connected to a local church. That is our ultimate goal in all that we do. We offer a money management class to help people understand how to budget their resources. Even if they are only receiving welfare, there is a better way to manage what they receive. They can call the office and get put on the list for the class.

There are 137 Love INC’s around the United States and 7 in Kenya. Each one is over seen by a National Board of Directors and a local Board of Directors. Love INC of Tulare County has assisted 2,653 households for 2018 (4,052 adults and 4,903 children).

Recap: Physical donation can be dropped off at our Tulare Threads of Love locations. Financial donations may be sent to Love INC, P. O. Box 6074, Visalia CA 93290. If you have large donations call 559-733-8870 to schedule a pick-up. If you are aware of someone in need please have them call 559-733-8870. Please leave a message if the call goes to voice mail, all calls are returned. I look forward to hearing from you.

In His Service,
