A Personal God

"We’ve walked tired, sad, with doubts and burdens in our hearts. In fact, sometimes we don’t recognize the presence of the Lord walking alongside us." (Anthonyjgg / Adobe Stock)

The concept that we have of God will in some way determine how we see and understand the world. In Psalm 19:1-6 we find a beautiful presentation of God as the Creator of all things. It begins by saying this, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” What do we believe about God? What or who is God?

Genesis begins with nature. Romans 1:20, along with Psalm 19:1, reveals God’s glory and the power of the one true God. There is something in the heavens that makes us pause and think. This great and powerful God has created everything with so much love by manifesting his glory and majesty. God longs for us to understand who He is through seeing his Creation! In the heavens we can see his glory and his splendor. He wrote it in the heavens and in all Creation his great love for humanity. By observing nature around us we find a way for us to open our hearts and our longing to know him.

In his power, God created everything around us from nothing. And he created it for us. Everything that God created shows us that he is a sovereign, powerful, creative and wonderful God.

In his sovereignty, everything God wants, He does. He has everything under his control. He is sovereign over everything that exists.

In his goodness, God makes the sun rise on the good and the evil. He makes it rain on the just and the unjust. His goodness never changes. His love is infinite, perfect and eternal. Every good thing descends from God. And nature, which is the work of His hands, promotes His goodness for humanity.

In its immensity we see how the heavens are higher than the earth So are the ways of God! We will never be able to reach or measure the greatness of God.

In His mercy, we see that every morning announces a new day and a new opportunity. These mercies are fresh, new every day, and ready for us to take from them.

Even beyond the greatness of creation its revelation would be incomplete, because we need to reach Jesus. He is the one who sustains all things with the Word of His power and in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:17). It is through Him that God showed Himself. Jesus told us, “He who has seen me has seen the Father! Because He became one of us, we have the perfect revelation of God that all human beings can understand. Salvation came through Jesus Christ and His work on the Cross. God reveals His love to us by sending His Son to reconcile the world through Him.

Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory and the very image of his substance (Hebrews 1:3)! Through his revelation to man we can know him through Creation, His Word and through Jesus Christ. God is a God who constantly communicates, who reveals himself, and speaks to us in different ways. God’s desire is for us to open our hearts to know him. Therefore, God reveals Himself clearly for the purpose of being known.
