The Exeter Monarchs girls basketball team opened its season with the Redwood Tournament Friday and Saturday.

The Monarchs won their first round game against Granite Hills 49-48.

In the quarter finals they battled with the host Redwood Rangers before falling 65-44.

The first half was littered with sloppy play and fouls. The teams combined for 32 first half fouls.

Tiffany Marinos led the Monarchs with 12 points in the game and was supported by Lindsay Turner who added 11 points.

In the third place game Exeter took on Cesar Chavez. The see-saw battle culminated with a dramatic game-tying three pointer from Exeter's Lindsay Turner in the games final seconds.

In overtime the Monarchs could not finish off the victory and fell 75-67.

Turner was named to the All-Tournament team and led all scorers with 25 points against the Titans. Whitney Turner added 15 points. The Monarchs will play next in the Monache tournament from Dec. 10-13 with times to-be-announced.
