For the second consecutive year, the Exeter Monarchs girls basketball team has been 6-2 heading into the final week of East Sequoia League Play.
And just like last year it has been unable to overcome the Corcoran Panthers who again handed Exeter its first and second league losses. The most recent a 80-39 drubbing last Tuesday in Exeter.
Following that game it was business as usual for the Monarchs who dispersed of Orosi 63-24 on Thursday. In true Exeter style nine players scored points including Sarah Wanzer who led the team with 12 points and Whitney Turner who had 10 points.
"It has been such a roller coaster season for this group of kids," Exeter coach Linda Wachter said. "They will be happy to go to the playoffs, no matter where they end up."
Last year the Monarchs finished 8-2 in the ESL, but because they are bumped up to Division 3, they got a low seed and were forced to travel despite their second place finish. It appears the same scenario may play out this year, but Wachter still has her fingers crossed.
