LHS softball ends skid, wins two in a row

Lindsay's roller coaster season continued last week, as the fourth place Cardinals (4-7, 8-14) beat Corcoran 7-5 and Orosi 14-3, ending a three-game losing streak.

Lindsay blew out Orosi on April 30 behind 15 hits and a strong pitching performance from Amanda Serda. Serda struck out four and allowed just six hits in five innings of work. Amanda Hernandez led the team at the plate going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Bekah Dial added a 2-for-2 performance with two doubles.

On April 27 the Cardinals used some timely hitting and base running in a comeback win over the Corcoran Panthers. Trailing 5-3 in the sixth inning Monie Perez started the rally with a one out single and Maricela Gutierrez followed by getting hit by a pitch. Both base runners eventually came around to score on passed balls.

The seventh inning was uneventful and Lindsay looked to take the lead in the eighth inning after Gutierrez led off with a single. Gutierrez stole second with Alynna Pena at bat. Pena then bunted and the ball was thrown over the first baseman's head allowing Gutierrez to score and Pena to move to second base. Pena would eventually end up on third base and score on a squeeze bunt by Serda.

Hernandez led all hitters, going 3-for-5 with a single, double and a triple in the game.

The Cardinals will look to win the season series with Orosi on Friday -- the two teams have split their two previous meetings.
