Lindsay tennis players struggle in ESL tourney

Llimi Lemus and Oscar Mendoza were the only one of Lindsay's three doubles team on May 7 in the East Sequoia League Championship Tournament at Exeter, to advance past the second round.

The tandem edged their first round opponent from Dinuba 8-6 and won by the same score in the second round against Exeter's Kevin Aguet and Randy Shandler. The eventual champions David Rangel and Armando Gomez from Orosi however, overmatched Mendoza and Lemus 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals.

In singles action Lindsay's Roger Mendoza cruised in the first round with an 8-1 win over Ulmaro Cuevas from Woodlake. In the second round he ran into the No. 3 seed Carson Wileman from Exeter two beat him 8-1. Wileman would eventually lose in the championship to Cesar Espino from Dinuba.

Lindsay's only other singles participant, Daniel Fonseca lost an extended match to Andrew Heidemann from Woodlake 8-7 (7-5).

As of press time the results of the Valley Championship seeding meeting were not available. The seeds for the May 22, tournament at Tulare Western High School will be available in the April 19 issue of the Lindsay Gazette.
