Like all the other schools May 15 at the Sierra-Sequoia Division Championship swim meet at Kingsburg's Crandal Swim Complex, the Exeter Monarchs girls swim team struggled to keep up with Garces High School in Bakersfield.

But when the waves settled it was Exeter who stood alone in second place, 156 points behind Garces.

Lindsay Turner starred for the Monarchs getting a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (57.86) and a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Savannah Edwards also made an impact for the Monarchs with a fourth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.56) and a fifth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:15.59).

Danielle Woods contributed a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (57.87) for the Monarchs who finished just 20 points ahead of third place Kingsburg and Cassi Jones finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:06.05.

The relay events were also friendly to Exeter whose 200-yard freestyle relay team of Turner, Mitchell, Tricia D'Orzaio and Woods took third (1:47.66) and 400-yard relay team of Mitchell, Jones, Edwards and Christy Lewis took fourth (4:09.72).

Boys

The Exeter Monarch boys swim team finished fourth out of 20 schools at the Sierra-Sequoia Division Championships in Kingsburg.

Dustin Mitchell took third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.62) and in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.63) and Daniel Munsch had a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.04) for Exeter's only top three finishes. Munsch added a sixth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.41), just under two seconds behind teammate Keith Robinson (1:02.00).

Other notables for the Monarchs were Arron Jones with a fifth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and a seventh place finish by Mike Safina in the 500-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard relay team of Mitchell, Munsch, Aaron Henderson and Robinson took fourth with a time of 1:37.88 and the 400-yard relay team of Munsch, Robinson, Jones and Mitchell took fourth with a time of 3:41.10.
