Card's end losing streak; make playoffs

By Tom Price Jr.

The Lindsay Cardinals (14-12, 7-8) baseball team salvaged what could have been a lost season with a final game 10-7 win over Corcoran that clinched third place in the East Sequoia League.

The win could been the deciding factor in their birth into the Sequoia Division Small School Playoffs.

No. 8 seed Lindsay took on the No. 1 seed Taft yesterday. As of press time the first round game in Taft had yet to be played and results can be found in the May 26 issue of the Lindsay Gazette.

Lindsay's win over Corcoran came on the tails of a crushing four-game slide that saw them fall from second place in the ESL. Ironically for the Cardinals it took an uncharacteristic offensive explosion to beat Corcoran 10-7. Lindsay, who has banked on solid pitching and good defense all season long to win close games, had a 13-hit outburst against the Panthers.

Noe Orosco led the Cardinals going 3-for-4 with two RBI and Abel Gamboa added two hits and a two runs scored. In all nine different Cardinals hitters had hits, including Damian Leon who had one hit and two RBI and Memo Orozco who was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Abel Gamboa struck out nine hitters in five innings but walked four and surrendered five runs. Gamboa improved to 6-3 on the season and finished with a 2.90 ERA.

If the Cardinals upset Taft they will play Friday against the winner of the game between No. 5 Sierra and No. 4 Dos Palos game.
