Two costly errors by Jamie Athas in the top of the ninth and the top of the tenth allowed the game-tying and game-winning runs to score as the Las Vegas 51s defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 5-3 on Saturday.
Fresno took a 3-2 lead into the top of the ninth, but with the bases loaded and one out, Athas botched a ground ball off the bat of Antonio Perez to allow the tying run to score.
With runners on second and third and two outs in the 10th, Athas botched another play when Ryan Kellner hit a ball his way and both runs crossed the plate.
Exeter native Adam Pettyjohn pitched six strong innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out three. Pettyjohn is currently 2-5 with a 6.38 ERA and 60 innings pitched.
Tom Farmer picked up the win in relief for Las Vegas and improved to 5-3 on the season. Giovanni Carrara notched his second save. Chad Zerbe (1-3) suffered the loss.
