Eels names all over leader board at Kingsburg trials

It was a crowded pool Saturday at the Central Valley Recreation Swim League (CVRSL) Time Trials in Kingsburg but it wasn't hard to find the Exeter Eels. All you had to do was look at the leader board.

In all, the Exeter Eels had eight first place finishes and 16 top three finishes. Megan Eppler led the way for the Eels with first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (25.93), the 50-yard butterfly (30.22) and the 100-yard individual medley (IM) (1:05.56). Eppler competed in the 11-to 12-year-old girls division.

Danielle Woods continued the strong performances for the girls with a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (27.02). Competing in the 15-to 18-year-old division Woods also notched a second place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.34) and a third place finish in the 50-yard butterfly (30.65).

Other noteables for the girls were Abby Mendonca and Sarah Nail who each had second place finishes and Brooke Cavanagh who added a third place finish.

Jonathan Castellow was strong representing the boys in the 9-to 10-year-old division. Castellow posted first place finishes in the 25-yard freestyle (14.30) and the 25-yard butterfly (16.63) and a second place finish in the 100-yard IM (1:28.08).

In the same division Mitchell Gosvener took the top spot in the 25-yard breaststroke with a time of 20.58.

Stephen Veldhuizen continued the momentum for the boys with a third place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke.

The relay teams also found success in Kingsburg getting a win in the 9-to 10-year-old boys 100-yard medley relay with a time of 1:16.49. Castellow, Gosvener, Nate Norman and Christian Watts made up the winning team.

Exeter also had medal winners in the 100-yard freestyle relay (1:44.70) in the girls 6-and-under division and in the 15-to 18-year-old girls 200-yard medley relay (2:07.24).

Many of the Eels will jump back in the pool Saturday for the CVRSL All Star Swim Finals at the Krandall Swim Complex in Kingsburg.
