Frosh finishes first in Kingsburg

Racing against 15 Valley schools, the Exeter Cross Country team hit the two-mile course at the Kingsburg Invitational on Saturday.

The Monarchs faced big and small schools alike from Bullard High to Avenal. Sixteen runners strong, the team left the invitational with nine medals in five races. Each medal represents a top 20 finish in the respective race.

Coming out of her third high school race, freshman Allison Gonzalez finished first in her division at 12:21. Her time placed Allison as the fourth fastest runner overall for the girls races.

At the other end of the divisions, Brandon Sutton finished ninth in the senior boys race. Sutton, the only participating senior, finished the race at 11:04.

"Both Allison Gonzalez and Brandon Sutton led the teams to a great day of racing," said Monarch Head Coach Isaac Gonzales of his two top finisher's.

Dominating the junior boys race, all three of the participating Monarch runners left with medals on Saturday. Jordan Cavanagh finished in sixth place with a time of 11:17. Tim Stone ended at 11:22 followed by Willie Rosales at 11:25 putting them at ninth and tenth place for the race.

The junior girls fared even better in their division. Abbey Cochran and Rachel Mitchell grasped third and fourth place finishes with times of 13:14 and 13:56 respectively.

In the freshman boys division, Clayton Reynolds finished up at 11:44 coming in eighth.

Rounding out the freshman girls race, Alyssa Stone made a 16th place finish at 15:27 and was piggybacked by Brittany Hayes at 15:40.

This weekend's performance followed another successful showing at the 12-team Dinuba Invitational on the fourth. Gonzalez put in a second place performance on the 2.5 mile Varsity course. Her teammates Stone and Sutton led the boys side with 13th and 14th place finishes.

The Monarchs race again in the Monache Invitational on the 16th at Bartlett park at 4 p.m.
