Team NAPA wins Three Rivers charity golf tourn.

They were amateurs. They were on their first team effort. They were team NAPA and they took first place at the Three Rivers Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 18.

Consistent team play powered the NAPA Auto Parts/Autocare Center Golf team to the championship of the 2004 Three Rivers Volunteer Fire Department Charity Golf Tournament at the Three Rivers Country Club Saturday.

Teammates Jess Paz, Teo Valenzuela, Ismael Rodriguez, and Ozzie Zamora, blistered the greens for a course record 57 to outlast the defending champions from Hanggi Farms

It was outstanding performance for their inaugural tournament.

With Valenzuela pounding monstrous tee shots, and Paz setting Rodriguez and Zamora up for birdie putts, there was no stopping Team NAPA.

"My neck was sore from watching Teo hit those awesome shots," said Zamora.

The shots of the day were Valenzuela's 400 yard rocket that hit the green on the fifth hole (par 5), and Zamora's 15 foot putt for birdie on eight.

Rodriguez also hit a clutch 15 footer on seven for birdie.

The other competitors were left stunned in disbelief.

By the end of the day, the tournament had raised $4,000 for the Three Rivers Volunteer Fire Fighters.

The event was sponsored by the Kaweah Park Resort of Three Rivers.

Inspired by the cause and success of the tournament, Team Napa is looking to sponsor its own event later in the month. The employees of Napa Auto Parts and Jess' Auto Repair would like to hold a golf tournament in Lindsay to raise money for a local group.

The team has yet to choose a recipient for its upcoming event.
