Volleyball avenges loss to Immanuel

When the Monarch volleyball team lost to Immanuel in the Championship game of the Farmersville tournament, they knew it wouldn't be their last matchup with the tough volleyball program.

The Monarchs came into last week's contest ready to prove themselves.

They did just that.

In four games, the Monarchs brought down Immanuel 25-17, 25-12, 23-25 and 25-23.

The win bumps the Monarchs' league record up to 4-0.

Immanuel couldn't combat Exeter's offense at the net. Rennee Barnett led the team with 17 hits. She was followed by Tiffany Marinos who made 15 hits for the night. Both of these starters also helped out with one block each.

Marinos came up big on the defensive end of things when she managed to pull off 30 digs in the four games.

Barnett also led big on the digs, mustering up 11 of them.

Baille Hellwig put away 11 hits and made seven blocks while her cousin Libby Hellwig hit the ground for 10 digs.

Amanda Morgan led the team with two serving aces.

The Monarchs followed up the big win with another victory on Thursday, Sept. 30 when they travelled to Coalinga.

Barnett led the team again with eight hits, 13 digs and a single ace.

Marinos also had another big game with seven hits, five digs, and managed one block.

The Monarch JV squad found victory in Coalinga as well. The team wrapped up the night in two games, 25-12 and 25-15.

Jessica Davis and Amber Copello put away the most hits with 5 and 6 each. The two also led the team in serving. Each managed to hit four Aces in the two games.

The JV's win in Coalinga coupled with their success at Immanuel brought the team's ESL record up to 4-0.

They brought down the Eagles in two games as well. Davis along with Collie Souza led the team's offense with six hits a piece. The young Monarchs ended the night with two wins, 25-22 and 25-19.
