Lady Card's undefeated at 4-0

On a cross from the left side of the field, a Farmersville forward pushed the ball past Lindsay keeper Ivette Felix for the first goal of last Thursday's final non-league game.

The Aztecs goal did not go unanswered. Lindsay's center halfback Sonja Barrientos made a long shot from outside the box to put away a game tying Cardinal goal.

The second half opened with a tie at one. Speedy Brenda Rangle handed Lindsay the lead when she scored on a breakaway after switching positions to the right side of the field. Controlled by sweeper Monica Montes the Cardinal defense held the Aztecs in the second half to capture their fourth win of the season sending Lindsay into league with a 4-0 record.

"The game was physical, the referee let it get that way," said Cardinal coach Freddy Martinez. "But we aren't a physical team so we had to depend on our speed."

Lindsay went into the Farmersville game riding on the coattails of a 3-0 win over Hanford West on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Facing a bigger team, the Cardinals played the ball and saw their first goal by way of a free kick in the first half. Ivet Soria popped the direct kick past Hanford's keeper to take the lead. The second half saw two goals by forward Rangle to shut out Hanford by three goals.
