Rangers shut out Monarchs 5-0

The varsity girls Monarchs traveled to Visalia last week to face the Division I Redwood Rangers. Redwood captured a 5-0 win in a second half onslaught.

The game brings the Monarchs to 2-4 for the season with all the losses coming from larger schools.

"The injuries are healing and we are growing and learning by the day," said coach Daren Laskey. "Amanda Brooks and Haley Lafleur played great defensively.

"As the season progresses we are getting better and better. We played Redwood to a 1-0 game for the first 60 minutes, then we just got outplayed."

Redwood has a first class program all the way around and Laskey hopes the experience playing the bigger schools will pay off during the league season.

With the hopeful addition of some injured starters, things look good for us this week," Laskey said. "Our reserves have stepped in and played well against some very good competition.

"The preseason has been a great experience for us. We have been able to play competitively with some top programs in the valley and that will pay off."

The JV team finished third at the Mt. Whitney tournament on Saturday. They went 2-1 with wins over Whitney and Redwood. The Redwood game was a rematch of a 4-2 loss earlier in the week. The girls put 3 in the net and Kayla Sherer produced a shut-out at goalie.
