Preseason play has come to a close for girls basketball programs throughout the valley.

For many in the East Sequoia League, their record heading into league doesn't matter much to them. With league play set to open on Jan. 5, Woodlake tops the league in terms of preseason records at 7-3-0. But to Exeter coach, Linda Wachter, preseason isn't about winning games or accumulating stats, she just wants a chance to see how her team plays in preparation for the games that count, league.

The Monarchs are currently below a winning record with wins over Porterville, Mojave and league competitor Lindsay.

Lindsay, at a 4-8-0 record, has battled through a tough preseason schedule falling to several Division I and II teams. Despite their losing record, Lindsay's Nickie Salinas is topping the league with her scoring already at 223 points in 12 games. With that, Salinas has already sunk 28 three pointers.

Behind Salinas, Corcoran's Torreya Edwards is proving to be scoring threat for the Panthers. With 175 points and 20 treys, Edwards has led Corcoran in their 4-7 preseason.

Lindsay hosts Coalinga on Jan. 5 in their league opener.
