Boys soccer snatches 3-2 win over Lindsay

By Andrea Camarena

Lindsay fell to Exeter in a tight 3-2 loss just two days before their victory over Dinuba.

Luis Hernandez put away the first goal against the Monarchs by heading in a long cross early in the first half. But the team's shooting turned cold as the game progressed.

Exeter netted two goals with no answer from the Cardinals bringing the game to 2-1 as they headed into the second half.

Lindsay struggled in a game of catch-up and the Monarchs shut down the Cardinal offense. Exeter put in a third goal and Lindsay answered back when Juvenal Lemus headed in a corner kick for the Cardinals' second goal.

Both teams got desperate in the final minutes of the game as Lindsay looked to tie the game and Exeter looked to seal their win with a fourth goal. Lindsay's chance to tie the game weakened when Martin Ocegera missed a penalty kick at the end of the half.

Neither team netted another goal and the rivalry game closed at 3-2, Exeter.

"We did fairly well but we need to stop losing these close games. We have to play the full 80 minutes, not 75 minutes," Bernal said.
