And it's on to State.

Monarch wrestling moved up another notch over the weekend. Two Exeter wrestlers qualified for the State Tournament in Bakersfield after placing at the Masters tournament in Clovis.

Daniel Weatherly took second place in the 140 pound weight division after falling to Bret Land of Bakersfield high school in the final round of the tournament.

Weatherly took wins in the first two rounds over Mitch Moralez out of Tulare Union and Eric Maldonado of Golden West High School.

In the 119 pound weight division, Exeter's Ernesto Ramirez took third place after going 3-1 in the tournament.

Ramirez started off the tournament with a win over Alex Rodriguez of Clovis East.

But the second round resulted in his first and only loss when Frankie Castillo from Arvin won the decision.

Ramirez came back to pin Foothill's Bernard Chaidez putting him into the consolation round against Jimmy Savala from Clovis.

Ramirez took the win and third place.

"They are both wrestling exceptionally well. I hope they continue to do that through the next match," said Exeter Coach Justin Golding.
