For the second week in a row the Monarch girls track team took first at an East Sequoia League track meet. On Wednesday, April 20, the Monarchs enjoyed the pleasure of scoring their victory at home.

Exeter took the meet with one-hand tied behind their back. Five of Exeter's top starters were out due to injury at the meet but the Monarchs still managed to score 18 more points than Corcoran for the win.

Exeter finished the meet with 121 points for first while Corcoran came in close behind with 102 points for second place. Coalinga totaled 65 points for third while Immanuel and Domina fell off with 23 and 19 points a piece for fourth and fifth places.

"We're so deep in the girls that we've been able to overcome everything," Exeter head coach Darin Lasky said. Lasky's squad suffered a big blow the week of the meet when top 100-meter sprinter Melissa Helms pulled her hamstring causing her to sit out the meet.

Jennifer Landers stepped in for Helms in the 100 to take first with a time of 13.84. Tiffany Harlin also placed for the Monarchs, taking second in 13.90.

Laura Brinkman and Kelly Curtis gave the Monarchs the edge in the field events by taking second and fifth places. Kelly jumped her personal best of 28-11 for second place behind Immanuel.

Allysa Stone stepped into the girls 4-by-100-meter relay team to help take first in 55.61 seconds. "It's everyone right now," Lasky said of the girls stepping up to place and scoring big points for the Monarch team.

The varsity boys team finished in third in the same league meet. With 63.25 points, the Monarchs finished behind first place Corcoran and second place Dinuba. Exeter finished ahead of Coalinga who only mustered 35 points. Cory Griffin scored big in the 100-meter race to take second with a time of 11.47 seconds. In the same event, Drew Branch finished just behind Griffin to take third place in 11.88 seconds.

The Monarchs will travel to Corcoran today for their final league meet.
