By Andrea Camarena

Lindsay came in full force on April 23-24 for the basketball Junior National qualifying tournament in Las Vegas.

Three Lindsay High School basketball players were invited to play amongst the 12 teams of players up and down the state. Brothers Johnny and Anthony Gonzales and teammate David Ross traveled to the tournament and were all chosen to continue on to the USA Junior National tournament in Ohio as members of the California team.

The Las Vegas Tournament placed hand picked high school players on 12 teams in a double elimination tournament. Based on their individual performances in the tournament, the top players were selected to continue on to the National tournament. The Gonzalez brothers, playing for the Jazz, won three straight games to take the tournament championship. In their first game they defeated Ross' team, the Rockets, then chased it with victories over both the Lakers and Knicks.

In the final 40-minute game of the tournament, against the Knicks, Johnny Gonzalez scored 27 points for the Jazz. A tournament high.
