Woodlake doubles up wins with 3-0 shutouts

Tiger soccer stays on their undefeated track after taking two 3-0 shutout wins over both Dinuba and Immanuel in the second week of league play.

Woodlake opened the week with their third league win on the season, a 3-0 shutout over the Emperors in Tiger territory.

They went on to sink Immanuel by the same score despite the Eagles home field advantage.

Forward Heather Rivas netted two goals while junior teammate Janee Plunkett tacked on one more from center half.

The wins last week up the Tigers league record to 4-0 and overall record to 5-6.

&#8220We start strong and end strong,” Woodlake head coach Sal Guerra said. &#8220We try to eliminate the team in the first half then finish strong.”

The strategy is working and the Tigers are winning big in the first round of East Sequoia League play despite their young squad. Woodlake lost nine starting seniors from last year's squad and this year, they are rebuilding with just three seniors and a majority of junior and sophomore athletes filling the roster. The Tigers have already faced and defeated rival Exeter as well as Corcoran in the first round of league. Guerra anticipates the 3-1 Lindsay Cardinals to be the team's biggest challenge of the season. The Cardinals and Tigers will face off at 6p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 12 in Woodlake.
