Eels, Skimmers qualify for finals

This weekend the Central Valley Recreational Swim League came to a close Saturday at the finals in Sanger. The Kingsburg Seawolves boys finished the meet in first place with 770 total points. The lady Seawolves also took first with 789 points to earn the team a combined team score of 1,559.

The Exeter Eels boys took fifth place at the final meet with 483 points while the girls took eighth place with a score of 480 points. The teams combined for 963 points and a sixth place team finish.

The Woodlake Tigersharks boys took 16thplace with 145 points. The girls did not compete for a teamscore.

The Lindsay Skimmers boy's team finished the final with 115 points for 17th place while the girls took15th place with 106 points. The team finished with a combined score of 221 points for17th place.

The Eels had a top performance from their girls 8 and under 100-yard medley relay taking second place with a time of 1:23.40.

The Eels found a first place win in the boys 11-12 year olds, 200-yard medley relay taking first place with a time of 2:15.76. Members of the relay team were Jonathan Castellow, Mitchell Gosvener, Robie Reid and Nate Norman. The same team also took second place in the 200-yard free relay in 1:57.96.

The 13-14year old boys captured another medley relay win with a quick time of 2:05.98 in the 200-yard race. The relay team included Ryan Fultz, AJ Reid, Stephen Veldhuizen and Christopher Veldhuizen.

Abby Mendonca of the Exeter Eels took third place in the girls 8 and under 25-yard freestyle with a time of 15.95. Mendonca also took first in the 25-yard backstroke in 19.66. She completed the 25-yard butterfly race in 16.85 for a first place finish.

In the 10 year olds 25-yard freestyle swim, Lindsay's Michaela Brawly took fourth place in 14.76 seconds.

Exeter grabbed another first place finish in the boys 11-12 year olds 50-yard freestyle when Jonathan Castellow finished in 27.26 seconds. He also dominated in the boys 50-yard backstroke in 33.69 seconds.

The Eels Lianne Quek took third place in the girls 6 and under, 25-yard backstroke event with a time of 25.71.

The Skimmers Chelsea Arroyo took a speedy first place in the girls 13-14 year olds 50-yard backstroke in 29.84. Arroyo also finished third in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:07.69. She took another first place win in th e50-yard butterfly with a time o f29.48.

In the girls 8 and under, 100-yard freestyle, the Exeter Eels took third place with a time of 1:12.17.

Exeter's Haley Hopper had a great first place finish in the girls 10 and under, 100-yard IM with a time of 1:22.41.

Local swimmers dominated in the boys 11-12 year olds, 100-yard IM. Lindsay's Wesley Cole took first place with a time of 1:09.66 while Exeter's Mitchell Gosvener and Jonathan Castellow took second and third with times of 1:09.68 and 1:10.61.

Gosvener and Coles also came up strong in the 50-yard butterfly taking second and third place respectively with times of 30.64 and 31.14.

Gosvener also went on to take second in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 35.67.

Lindsay's Stevi Ibarra took second place in the 15-18 year old girls 50-yard butterfly in 29.53 seconds.

Exeter's Shayla Hill took second place in the girls 13-14 year olds 50-yard breaststroke scoring a time of 34.51.
