The Exeter volleyball team went undefeated at last weekend's Visalia Invitational to win the tournament for the third straight year.

The Monarchs opened pool play Saturday with a win over Kingsburg in two games and continued to march through opponents beating Golden West, Woodlake and Porterville all in two straight games.

The Lady Monarchs faced Chowchilla in the Quarterfinal and won two close games 25-20 and 25-18.

Exeter saw tougher competition in the seminal, facing CVC and needing three games to defeat the Cavaliers 22-25, 25-23 and 15-12.

Another win against Kingsburg, 25-16 and 25-17 in the final gave the Monarchs the title once again.

&#8220I'm really excited and happy about the progress of this young team,” Exeter coach Alana Montgomery said. &#8220We were excited just to be in the top four and then we just kept winning,” Montgomery said.

The Monarchs, with a team made of seven sophomores, and only one senior, improved their record to 8-1.

Winning this tournament was highlighted by sparkling play from Callie Souza who took home tournament MVP honors after leading her team with 63 kills, along with 67 digs and seven aces.

&#8220Although all the girls contributed to this championship Callie Souza had an outstanding tournament. She led her team in kills and played with skill and determination,” Montgomery said.

Senior Amber Capello was named to the All-Tournament team thanks to her 62 digs and 13 aces.

The team also received valuable contributions from Brittney Medrano with 26 kills and six aces, Katherine Hutcheson with 59 assists and12 aces and Sabina Lopez had 78 digs.

Kendra Amann had 25 kills while Laura Brinkman collected 88 assists.

&#8220Winning this tournament shows we have the potential to carry on this program's successful tradition. We are looking forward to a very challenging schedule ahead which includes Bakersfield Christian, CVC and in the East Sequoia League, Immanuel and Kingsburg,” Montgomery said.
