The Monarchs took their second tournament title of the year on Saturday, Sept. 30 after going undefeated in all six games of Sacramento's Carmichael Invitational.

Junior Callie Souza led the team with 50 kills, six aces and 40 digs through the weekend. Souza's effort helped the Monarchs drop Woodland Christian 25-17, 22-25 and 15-12 in the opening match of pool play.

Exeter also trounced Lower Lake 25-8 and 25-13 and Anderson 25-12 and 25-16 to win its pool.

Exeter's Brittney Medrano was the top server for the weekend delivering 12 aces along with 24 kills, three and a half blocks and two assists.

The Moarchs took their quarterfinal win over Argonat 25-13 and 25-16 and advanced to dominate 25-16 and 25-14 over Granada in the Semifinal.

Exeter battled to win the tournament final in three after falling behind in the first game. The Monarchs finished up with a score of 26-28, 25-19 and 15-9.

Sharon Grim also had a top serving performance with 10 total aces and 29 digs.

Amber Capello put up a major defensive effort with 42 digs. Kathryn Hutcheson had 41 digs, 50 assists and nine aces.

&#8220It's always great to win and it was an especially good tournament for our young players,” Exeter coach Alana Montgomery said. &#8220Hopefully, we gained more experience for the start of league.”

The Monarchs were not as successful earlier in the week when they took a four-game loss to CVC on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The night started off right when Exeter won a close first game 25-22. But the Cavaliers quickly came back for three straight victories 13-25, 10-25 and 20-25. Souza had 16 kills and a single ace. Hutcheson delivered four aces and 12 assists. Sabina Lopez had 14 kills while Laura Brinkman had 19 assists.
