Emperors break Monarchs 5-0 win streak

The Monarchs left Exeter to battle the Emperors on Friday, Oct. 6.

The Monarchs fell short as they left the football field with a loss of 27-7 Dinuba.

Starting off strong in the first quarter, Exeter kicked off to the Emperors to begin the game. Holding strong, Exeter forced Dinuba to punt. On their second offensive possession of the night, senior quarterback Sam Garver handed off the ball to junior Sergio Ortiz to put Exeter on the scoreboard first. Senior Vince Pascoe kicked the PAT making it 7-0 Exeter.

Then with a kickoff by Pascoe, Dinuba's Chris Sanchez ran straight up the middle of the field for an 80-yard touchdown run. After a PAT, the score was tied 7-7.

Exeter continued to battle Dinuba, the first quarter ended with a tied score. As the second quarter played through, both teams held strong. With a pass to Cody Cotton, an Emperor touchdown was put on the board, bringing the score to 7-13, Dinuba at the end of the first half.

Coming into the third quarter, Rogelio Cortez intercepted a Monarch pass to bring the Monarchs defense back out onto the field.

Seniors Brandon Guglielmoni, Cristoval Lemus and Chris Parker held strong on defense in the third quarter stopping attempted runs by Dinuba. Then Bladimir Cervantes received a pass from Dinuba quarterback Junior Cuevas for an Emperor touchdown. With a two-point conversion, the score was 7-21, Dinuba at the end of the third quarter.

Continuing their passing game, Dinuba put up another score with a pass to Kellen Isaac making it 7-27 Emperors throughout the third quarter.

Pushing down the field in the end of the fourth, Garver threw a 14-yard pass to Parker, but running out of time, the game ended 7-27 Dinuba.

Dinuba's passing game seemed to do the trick against the Monarch's 5-0 winning streak.

Exeter's offense rushed for a total of 146 yards. Sophomore Cameron Loeffler had 91 yards, Sergio Ortiz had 46 and Pascoe had 16.

The Monarch defense had a team total of 92 tackles for the night. Tackle leaders were Parker with three tackles and 11 assists, Garver with two and three, Loeffler with two and six, Pascoe with two and seven and Pedro Saldana with two and five.

&#8220Even though Dinuba was a loss, we'll correct our weaknesses,” Defensive coach Richard Parker said. &#8220This game will help us to win the Valley Championship.”

Monarchs JV win 14-7

Ending the first quarter tied 0-0, Exeter's JV team went into the second quarter to prepare for a tough game.

Dinuba put the first score on the board. Holding strong, the first half ended with Dinuba in the lead 0-7.

In the third quarter, Roberto Patino caught the ball on Exeter's own 25-yard line, to run it back 75 yards for an Exeter touchdown. Missing the extra point, the score remained 6-7 Dinuba.

Going into the fourth, Jaycee Totty got another Exeter touchdown and with a 2-point conversion, the score was 14-7 Monarchs. Holding strong, the JV Monarchs ruled the Emperors 14-7 at the end of the night.

This week, the Monarchs will host Selma for Exeter's homecoming on Oct. 13 in hopes to bring victory back on the field.
